21/07/2010 - What a show!!! Jordy Smith South Africa's surf superstar blasted his way to his first ever WCT win at the J-bay Pro. Jeffrey's Bay turned on the conditions and the event ran for four consecutive days starting on day one, for the first time in the events history. But it was Jordy who consistently lit up the event, by linking massive carves with superman grabs to gauging tail slides.
The event win shunts Jordy into the number one spot on the world rankings. The first time a South African has been in the number one spot since the legendary Martin Potter was dominating the tour back in the Eighties. Exciting times!!!
28/11/2009 - Witsands Beach Cleanup Ocean Minded and the Kommetjie Surf Shop were down on the beach from 10 to 12am on saturday 28th in a combined effort to pickup rubbish washed down from the old dump.
Unbelievably Witsands was the site of a municipal dump. During heavy rainfall 30 year old rubbish gets exposed, littering the beach and ultimately ending up in the sea. KEAG(kommetjie environmental group) was on hand to help supervise. Kaui got involved handing out cold smoothies to everyone who helped out. When the beach was finally clean and all the bags full everyone retreated to the Green Room where there were a few cases of free Jack Black Beer. Many thanks to everyone who lent a hand.

21/11/2009 - HOOLEY launched at the Kommetjie Surf Shop on Saturday the 21st November. There was a great vibe with 80-100 people pulling in to support Mike Schlebach in his new venture. Joel Parkinson WINS the Billabong Pro J-Bay. The final was a one way affair with Parko styling his way to 3rd victory on the WCT this year. This firmly cements his postion as the number 1 surfer on tour and the man to beat this year. Sean Holmes was the standout South African surfer of the event. Sean surfed a few incredible rides linking big turns and beautiful barrels. However unfortunately in the quarters he lost out to a rampaging Dane Reynolds who scored a perfect 10 on his opening wave and backed it up with a 9.2 securing the highest heat score of the event. Another stand out was Kelly Slater in his round 2 heat, scoring 4 nine point rides. Check out the heats on demand atwww.billabongpro.com

He came up against the on fire Brazillian youngster Adriano da Souza in the final. Adriano got off to a great start and looked to have slater up against the ropes. However in true champion fashion slater hit back with a 9.27 ride and backed it up with a couple of good scoring rides to win the event.

There was a huge local Cape Town contingent lining the railway cheering for their boy. Unfortunately Royden didn't get the wave he required to beat Thornton. It was a well deserved win for Thornton who scored the highest scoring wave of the day(9.6 for a sick barrel) and now sits in 5th place on the WQS
